FAQs

Here are some of the most common questions we get asked about the Rockstar Community Fund (RCF). If you have any other questions burning a hole in your brain that aren’t answered here, feel free to drop us a line and ask us personally.

What does the RCF do?

The RCF is an initiative of RockstarFinance.com, with the sole mission of empowering others to give back in their own communities in a way that’s fun and meaningful to them. Regardless of the “who,” it’s all about the “why” in the end: to show that even a small amount of money can make a huge impact if given in thoughtfulness and love.

We’ve spent many years harnessing the web to do GOOD back in the “real” world, and this project is one of the ways we do so :)

For a full list of our current projects and their results, check out our Projects page.

Is the RCF a charity?

Nope, we’re just people who love giving back, and we want to make it easy for others to do as well . . . whatever that means to them. The Rockstar Community Fund is not a 501(c)(3) – we want to be able to instantly give help or money to people who need it, and that is best done by freely going our own route.

Is my contribution tax-deductible?

Nope, the contributions are not tax-deductible because we are not a 501(c)(3). If that’s a deal breaker for you, not a problem – there are lots of great charities out there! Two of our favorites are charity: water and Sundara.

How do we know where our money goes?

We show where all our money goes every month here on the site. We have very limited admin costs because no one from the RCF takes a salary – we all volunteer our time and effort to make this work, and 100% of your contributions go right to our projects. Whenever we partner with a corporate sponsor, we use that money to offset expenses and to amplify that month’s mission.

Can’t I just use my own $20 for a #GivingCard mission?

Yes! We’d love that! Just make sure to share what you did so we can help pass it around and inspire others. You can share it in our forums directly, or by shooting us an email.

How do I get one of these trending #GivingCards?

Just fill out this form here, and we’ll mail it right out to you. All we ask is that you come back and tell us what you did with it in return (pics and videos even better!).

How can I support this project?

Check out this page for all the ways you can help support the RCF. If you want to contribute a larger amount or propose a partnership of some kind, you can shoot us a note with your idea – we love working with good-hearted people and organizations. ♥

What if I have no money? Can I still help?

Of course! The more people spreading the word, the bigger difference we can make! Check out this page for all the ways you can help, and we’ll buy you a beer next time we see you ;) We’re also getting a Street Team together, so if you have a blog or any other social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Insta, etc) that would help get the word out as well. Or even tell your grandma about us right to her face!

How can my company/business/blog help?

We love partnering up with businesses, entrepreneurs, and influencers to supercharge our projects! We have lots of ideas on how we can help make these types of partnerships successful, and would love to hear your own as well. We’ve worked with dozens of companies over the years from mom and pop shops to larger entities like Groupon and Cinnabon, and our entire project is set up to be as efficient and flexible as possible. Pass us a note!

Will the RCF support my charity/philanthropy project?

Possibly! Drop us a line and tell us what you’re working on – we’re always evaluating new projects and looking for fun ways to give back together :) We can’t promise anything, but if we fall in love with it you can rest assured we’ll give you the tools and support you need to make it even bigger and better.

What kind of experience do you guys have running projects like these?

Nate was one of the first micro-giving pioneers online, and he’s been doing this kind of work since 2009. Community projects include:

  • ItStartsWith.Us (10,000 members giving time)
  • Love Bomb (5,000 members giving support)
  • Love Drop – with J. Money (1,000 members giving money)
  • GiveForward ($100,000,000 raised for medical need – as Director of Communications)

Jay has been creating communities of his own around the web since 2008, most notably in the personal finance world:

  • Budgets Are Sexy (15,000,000 people learning about and discussing money)
  • Rockstar Finance (3,000,000 people learning about money, and now *engaging* with others in our forums and philanthropy project!)
  • Love Drop – (The last time Jay and Nate paired up, raising over $90,000 in 12 months helping families across the country)

Nate and Jay do their best work together, merging the two worlds of finance and giving back, and they have the most fun doing it when their online projects effect positive change offline.

Are you guys writing this while in your pajamas?

Yes, but only because no one’s looking! (No one’s looking, right???)
